Born in Tasmania in 1953 and now living and working in Bathurst, Central Western NSW. Practising potter and calligrapher for the past 38 and 21 years respectively.

Inextricably linked to the historical account of writing, inscription on clay boasts a lineage which reaches back to the very inception of writing. Central to the aims and objectives of her work is the integrated use of clay and hand rendered letterforms.

As a calligrapher Marjo is interested in the particular aspects and qualities which govern calligraphy and sets calligraphic writing apart from other forms of visual test.

As a potter Marjo is interested in using clay as the medium for writing, rather than more traditional and familiar surfaces such as paper. This in itself is quite a challenge as clay bodies vary enormously, and differing textures and qualities have a significant impact on both choice and implementation of scripts.
